		<description>I reckon that this is a neat way of adding a pedometer function to the iPod. If only one can use the sensor with other shoes such as walking boots for example. There are those of us who want to go on long walks across the countryside or through suburbia for example and want to stuff an iPod with tunes to entertain us over the long walk. Here, the iPod also ends up as a pedometer which can also become handy with navigation.

Also, if someone else does this kind of thing with other personal electronics like cellpbones or other MP3 players, you could eliminate the need for a separate pedometer when doing that long distance walk.

If this was to be revised or extended, an electronic compass could be built in to the iPod-attached module and then you have software which can put up a compass display on the iPod&#039;s LCD. Other extensions could include mapping software which works to a standard map, and support for a GPS module, thus making devices like the iPod become &quot;Swiss Army knives&quot; for long-distance walkers.
