Microsoft Now Denies Blu-ray Disc on Xbox 360
Toshiba lose the high definition format war, and after all eyes are turned to Microsoft – What would they do about HD DVD support on Xbox. Some people expected from Microsoft to back Blu-ray disk and change gears, but this not going to happened.
“Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience,” Aaron Greenberg, group product manager for Xbox 360, told Reuters.
Stan Glasgow, Sony electronics president said that Sony and Microsoft disccusing about adopting the Blu-ray disk format.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said: “We’ve already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like, and I think the world moves on. Toshiba has moved on. We’ve moved on, and we’ll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense.“.
Toshiba don’t producing HD DVD hardware and Xbox 360 don’t have HD DVD add-on drives anymore. Microsoft is still focused on supply high-definition content for rental over Xbox Live Video Marketplace.
“We’re the only console offering digital distribution of entertainment content,” Greenberg said.
